Cognitive Assessment Tools Workshop

Designed for healthcare professionals interested in using or interpreting cognitive assessment tools in their clinical practice. Participants engage in a virtual, small group learning setting to improve their understanding of common cognitive assessment tools including how, when and where to use them and how to interpret their results. 

Registration Open: Geriatric Training Program

Date: Registration open from November 28, 2022 to March 6, 2023

Time: Self-paced

 

The Geriatric Training Program, affiliated with McMaster University, is an introductory education program that familiarizes the learner with core knowledge specific to geriatric assessment. This training program is currently available in a self-paced, virtual format. 

Caregiving Strategies: Providing Care and Support for Older Adults Living with Frailty

Date: February 1 - March 8, 2023 (6 sessions)

Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm (EST)

 

Pre-registration is required and open now for family members and caregivers supporting older adults. This free six-week virtual learning series includes modules on: caring for the caregiver, pain, staying active, nutrition, bladder health, medication management, changes in thinking, and social engagement. Join their expert facilitators to improve your skills, knowledge, and confidence as a caregiver. 

iGeriCare: How Personal Support Workers Can Support Dementia Care

Date: Thursday February 9, 2023

Personal support workers play a vital role in helping caregivers of persons with dementia provide better care for their loved ones. This time, Dr. Anthony Levinson will be joined by Miranda Ferrier, who is the CEO of the Ontario Personal Support Workers and Canadian Support Workers Associations. 

YWCA Hamilton Seniors Active Winter Wellness Fair

Date: Thursday February 9, 2023

A variety of guest speakers, interactive activities, educational workshops, and health screenings will take place at this free event. 

GERAS Dance

Date: March 7 - May 25, 2023

Time: Tuesday & Thursday 11:00am - 12:00pm (EST)

 

The YMCA has partnered with GERAS Centre for Aging Research at Hamilton Health Sciences. This fun 12 week dance program is designed for older adults who may have early cognitive or mobility impairments. 

Care for Older Adults: Where to Start

The Regional Geriatric Program Central Patient and Caregiver Education Working Group have developed the Care for Older Adults: Where to Start tool. This tool provides a selection of helpful provincial and regional resources for older adults and their caregivers who are seeking support. Click here to download the tool.

Behavioural Supports in Acute Care Capacity Building Package

Designed to reinforce foundational knowledge within acute care teams in providing quality care to older adults with, or at risk of, responsive behaviours/personal expressions associated with dementia, mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions.

The Acute Care Capacity Building Package contains three posters with three accompanying slide decks to support mini-education sessions. These resources are aimed at all point-of-care team members working in acute care.
