2022 Lifelong Achievement Award

Dr. Anthony Kerigan attended the London Hospital Medical School and moved to Hamilton in 1971 where he completed his residency in internal medicine at McMaster University. Early in his career, he saw the need for more specialised care of the frail elderly and on his own initiative sought training in the field. He became a stalwart member of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and was the sole physician providing such care at Hamilton Health Sciences Hamilton General Hospital for many years. In retirement, Tony continued to support older patients and provided palliative care to patients in the community and at Emmanuel House Hospice in Hamilton. Dr. Kerigan passed away in January 2022.

Dr. Kerigan was a truly kind-hearted man who embodied the principle of providing best care for all. He showed great compassion for his patients and treated them all with dignity and respect. All who had the opportunity to work with Dr. Kerigan were left inspired and resolute in their quest to helping their patients. He was also an excellent teacher and provided mentorship for countless medical students and residents. The Division of Geriatric Medicine is proud to honour Dr. Anthony Kerigan with the 2022 Annual Update in Geriatrics, Lifelong Achievement Award.
